Welcome to the Gustavus Student Life Division blog! The professional development committee is excited to introduce another way to stay connected and share thoughts about the important work we do. The blog will be used as a way for professionals in our division to share knowledge and we hope everyone will participate and share at some point.

Our first entry will come from our fearless leader, Dr. JoNes VanHecke. We have also asked a couple of your colleagues to write entries and will be sharing those periodically throughout the spring.

We are looking for writers! If you are interested in writing or would like to explore the idea of writing in a low-risk environment we would love to have you create something. Blog entries can vary in length, but we generally ask for 300 – 500 words.

Not sure what you’d write about? Here are a few ideas:

  • Tips for healthy lifestyle choices (work/life balance, seasonal health, fitness tips, etc)
  • New programs or initiatives in your office/department
  • Student development theory
  • Issues and trends in higher education (specific to your office or in general)
  • An historical aspect of the college or tradition at Gustavus that inspires you
  • Important issues Gusties are facing and ideas for approaches to addressing those issues
  • Create a resource list for a topic of interest

If you are interested in writing but not sure where to start, I’d be happy to sit down with you and talk through ideas, style, format, etc. This is YOUR blog and we can’t wait to see what you have to share with us!
